Another irreverent comedy from the illustrious screenwriting duo Berlanga and Rafael Azcona, this is the second instalment of the wildly popular Marqués de Leguineche trilogy, although it can certainly be well enjoyed as standalone entertainment. Moving away from Berlanga’s usual focus on the common people, here he sets his satirical sights on the opportunism of the Spanish ruling class. After the death of Franco, in 1975, and the restoration of the monarchy, the Marqués returns to his palace in Madrid. After thirty years of voluntary exile on his country estate, he sets out to curry favour with the King and resume court life. However, much has changed in Spanish society, and he finds it’s not so easy to access the Royal Family.
