Volunteering

Our team of volunteers get involved across our programmes and activities here at HOME. Using their passion, knowledge and enthusiasm for art, theatre and film, our volunteers help make our venue an exciting and welcoming place to visit and explore.

What is Volunteering?

A volunteer is someone who commits their time and energy for the benefit of others, who does so freely, through personal choice and without expectation of financial reward.

Many of our volunteers joined us at the very beginning when HOME opened in 2015 and have helped to shape our volunteer programme. They give hundreds of hours of their time throughout the year to help HOME staff provide the highest quality experience for visitors and participants of HOME projects. We’ve now got a team of over 50 volunteers from across Greater Manchester who continue to help shape our venue by engaging with our audiences and connecting us to Manchester communities.

What would I do as a HOME volunteer?

From welcoming audiences and guests, to engaging with community groups across Manchester, our volunteer roles at HOME are key to supporting the wide variety of work we do.

All volunteers join our HOME team as Front of House supporters (helping visitors, giving out programmes, etc.) and can then progress to specific roles supporting special events, activities and festivals. This can involve meeting new people, talking to visitors, helping with admin tasks, supporting visitors to find their way around HOME and listening to audience feedback. We’re always working to create new roles and activities for volunteers to have amazing experiences and develop new skills.

Volunteering at HOME is flexible and you can choose how much and when you volunteer using our online Volunteer Hub.

We really value the work that our volunteers do, so volunteers get access to social events, special screenings and preview events at HOME through our weekly newsletter. To make sure everyone can volunteer their time at HOME we also offer expenses to all volunteers for travel on public transport to and from shifts.

How can I get involved?

Volunteering is open to anyone over the age of 18 who lives or studies in Greater Manchester. You don’t need any specific experience or skills, just an enthusiasm to get involved and get stuck in!

HOME isn’t recruiting for volunteers right now, but  if you would like to have a chat to someone about volunteering, you can contact Felicity, Volunteer Programme Manager at volunteers@homemcr.org or by calling 0161 212 3495.

For information on placements and paid roles at HOME visit our Jobs and Opportunities page.

If you’re not yet 18 don’t worry, we have HOME Young Creatives – a programme of free workshops, projects and commissioning opportunities for anyone aged 15 – 25. Find out more here.
