Volunteering

Our amazing team of 100 volunteers from across Greater Manchester continue to help shape our venue by engaging with our audiences and connecting us to Manchester communities.

“Volunteering at Home has been one of the best things I’ve ever done, I would recommend it to anyone struggling with their confidence, and who feels isolated socially.

I have met people here I would not have come into contact with normally. I also enjoy the diverse selection of theatre shows on offer; I have seen some fantastic shows, which I probably couldn’t have afforded to attend under normal circumstances.”

What would I do as a HOME volunteer?

At HOME, our dedicated team of volunteers actively participates in all our programs and activities, contributing their passion, knowledge, and enthusiasm for art, theatre, and film. Their invaluable support transforms our venue into an exciting and welcoming space for visitors to explore and enjoy!

Our volunteers play a crucial role in welcoming audiences and guests, as well as engaging with community groups across Manchester. All Volunteers start their journey at HOME supporting the customer service team, assisting visitors, distributing programs, support special events, activities, and festivals. These roles involve meeting new people, interacting with visitors, assisting with administrative tasks, guiding visitors throughout HOME, and listening to valuable audience feedback. We continuously strive to create new roles and activities that offer our volunteers incredible and meaningful experiences and help them develop new skills.

Our Creative Development team offers opportunities for volunteers to gain skills and confidence in workshop facilitation, co-creation, and working with and supporting young people and families. Volunteers work alongside young creatives in various artistic disciplines, such as theatre production, artists’ studios, film collectives, courses, and flagship seasonal programs.

“This is a fun and exciting role for anyone who enjoys filmmaking and working with young people. A deep knowledge of film is not essential, but some knowledge of filmmaking and the film industry could be helpful.” – Volunteer supporting BFI Film Academy course

We really value the work that our volunteers do, so volunteers get access to social events, special screenings, and preview events at HOME through our weekly newsletter. To make sure everyone can volunteer their time at HOME we also offer expenses to all volunteers for travel on public transport to and from shifts.

Join our vibrant volunteer community at HOME and become an integral part of our mission to create a thriving cultural hub for all!”
