Toiling down the art mines, Pen:Chant taps the seams of spoken word, comedy, live music, contemporary performance and everything in between. Unearthing gems from Manchester, the UK and around the world we present them to you, confident they’ll make your hearts and minds sparkle!

For this protest & revolution special, we’ll be presenting a special line-up of acts whose art is not a mirror, but a hammer – not reflecting but shaping (cheers Brecht!). And even if they don’t change the world tonight, they’ll certainly change yours.

Headlining 24th & 25th will be:
** Forceful, acerbic and exciting spoken word poet Rosy Carrick!**
Quick-witted, charismatic and full to the brim with surreal and disgusting imagination, Rosy Carrick’s eccentric style has won her international acclaim. She has a PhD on the Russian revolutionary poet Vladimir Mayakovsky, and has released two books of his work in translation.

Joining Rosy on the 24th will be:
** Racy, political and taboo-busting singer-songwriter Avital Raz!**
Israeli-born ‘unhinged folk’ singer-songwriter Avital Raz has gained notoriety for her taboo-busting song lyrics. Her latest release ‘The Believer’, a collaboration with Scotland based cellist/ producer Pete Harvey (Meursault, The Leg), was reviewed in The Herald Scotland as ‘likely to be one of the most compelling things you hear all year’

Joining Rosy on the 25th will be:
** Guiness World Record-breaking beatboxer, rapper and theatre maker Testament!**
Testament is a hip-hop MC, poet, theatre maker and World Record-breaking beatboxer. Critically acclaimed work as a lyricist ties together strands of rap, song and spoken word. He has performed on BBC Radio 1Xtra, 6music and R4 and collaborated with luminaries including Corinne Bailey Rae, Soweto Kinch and DJ KoolHerc. Testament is currently touring his new one man show about rap music, sexism and fatherhood entitled ‘WOKE’.
