With support from Arts Council England and The Performers’ Playground, Mothers Who Make Manchester are offering four commissions to visual artist mother makers based in the Northwest.
We are looking for FOUR artists (or collaborations) to create a new work responding to the provocation of: MOTHER EARTH. The work that you make can respond in any way to this provocation. This could be prints, sculpture, painting, textiles etc.
This work will then be shown at HOME on 8 March 2023 as part of an International Women’s Day event for Mothers Who Make.
The event will be open to the public and will be a celebration of your work, the Mothers Who Make network, and International Women’s Day all in one. We will have our regular peer support circle plus other activities on the day.
What we are offering:
- A Commission of £750
- Up to £260 for Childcare costs
- Up to £250 for materials
Please note that if you apply as a group/collective the money remains the same i.e. £750 to be divided between you.
What we’re looking for:
- You must be based in the Northwest
- You must be a Mother
- The work must be ready to present on 8 March in our Event Space at HOME. This is not a gallery space so your work must be able to be mounted/displayed on a tabletop or on the floor (we can look into this with the successful applicants)
- As well as exhibiting your work we would like to artists to share their process of making the work in a way that suits them and allows others to glimpse into how they create work.
- You must be able to set up the work on the morning of the 8 March and take it down the same day.
Please note: Due to the space restrictions on this occasion, your work must be able to be displayed easily and fit with a non -gallery space. We cannot accommodate large scale installations.
