The Wizard of Oz

One of the best-loved fantasy films of all time returns to the big screen as a digitally restored print. Fleming’s classic film begins in the monochrome world of Kansas but bursts into colour when Dorothy’s house, uprooted in a terrible tornado, lands in the surreal fairyland of Oz where Dorothy and her dog Toto encounter three new friends: the brainless Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion and the heartless Tin Man, each in search of what he believes he is lacking. The film’s ostensible message is that ‘There’s no place like home’: Dorothy’s mythic journey seems to reveal that to find one’s heart’s desire, one need not look further than one’s own backyard.
