Shiraz

Directed by Frank Osten

A visually sumptuous historical romance set in the Mughal Empire, with the Taj Mahal central to its story of obsessive love and devotion. SHIRAZ is the tale of the 17th century princess who became the Empress Mumtaz Mahal and of Shiraz, the man who loved her and designed one of the seven wonders of the world as her tomb. In a unique event, acclaimed Indian devotional singer Ashit Desai and his musicians fly in especially from Mumbai to perform live the score he wrote for this fascinating silent film. With thanks to Laraine Porter for her generous assistance and to the Phoenix Arts Centre, Leicester and East Midlands Arts who commissioned the original score and performances of SHIRAZ. Tickets: £6.00 full / £5.00 concs.
