Special Preview Screening: Sat 14 Aug 2004. Animator-turned-director Samuell takes the audience on a wacky and wicked roller-coaster ride that veers from quirky to nasty at breakneck speed. Two young outsiders Julien and Sophie make a pact that will bind them forever: whoever holds the brightly coloured keepsake box must perform the dare demanded by the other. As the children grow to adults, so do the dares, escalating over the years to a level of brinkmanship that threatens the lovebirds with mutual annihilation. With its bold comic-book design and frenetic pacing, the film has been compared with AMELIE but is perhaps closer to the amour fou of JULES ET JIM.
