Italian for Beginners

Directed by Lone Scherfig

The fifth Danish Dogme film, it won four major prizes at the 2001 Berlin Film Festival. This endearing romantic comedy follows a quirky collection of 30-something lonely hearts who join an Italian evening class in their sad Danish suburb. There, they learn as much about love, laughter and romance as they do verb conjugations. When the class decamps for a study trip to Venice, somehow the spoken language becomes irrelevant.ITALIAN FOR BEGINNERS will show at Cornerhouse from 26 April. Preview courtesy of Pathé UK
