HarmonieBand present a live and lively accompaniment to two Buster Keaton classics…
One Week (U)
Dirs Eddie Cline, Buster Keaton/US 1920/25 mins
Buster Keaton, Sybil Seely, Joe Roberts
A newly wedded couple attempts to build a house with a prefabricated kit, unaware that a rival sabotaged the kit’s component numbering. A cautionary tale for DIY enthusiasts!
Sherlock Jr. (U)
Dir Buster Keaton/US 1924/45 mins
Buster Keaton, Kathryn McGuire, Joe Keaton
Sherlock, Jr. was the third feature-length film Buster Keaton made as an independent after switching to the longer format following a series of brilliant 2-reelers in the early 1920s. Coming after the nuanced and leisurely Our Hospitality (1923), Sherlock, Jr. is by comparison a non-stop collection of gags and stunts, with enough innovation and energy for two features.
HarmonieBand has made appearances at many UK film festivals and art centres. The ensemble has also travelled widely in Europe and including visits to the Dresden Musikfestpiele, the Giornate Del Cinema Muto in Italy and three tours of the Brabant, the last of which featured Paul Robinson’s score to Cocteau’s Le Sang d’un Poète. In 2007, the ensemble was invited to appear alongside the Hilliard Ensemble to present Paul Robinson’s score to Carl Dreyer’s La Passione de Jeanne D’Arc in the Opera House in Wroclaw. The performance was recorded and broadcast by Polish television. In July 2014 they were hosted by the Surrey University conference ‘Hollywood’s Musical Contemporaries and Competitors in the Early Sound Film Era’ where they performed to Carl Dreyer’s Vampyr. They perform regularly at all major art centres in the UK including the Barbican Cinema where in 2014 they presented Dreyer’s Vampyr and in 2016 Murnau’s Nosferatu.
This live accompaniment will include performances from Geeta Nazareth on Viola, Dai Pritchard on Clarinet/Saxophone and Paul Robinson on Keyboards/Accordion.
