Finn’s Girl

Directed by Dominique Cardona

Non-conventional families and reproductive rights lie at the heart of this enjoyable thriller. Finn, a doctor in an abortion clinic, drives through pickets to get to work and receives death threats at her family home. Struggling to recover from the death of her partner and uncomfortable in her new role as sole parent to their daughter Zelly, Finn throws herself into her work at the clinic. But Zelly needs Finn’s attention and tries ever more dangerous ways to attract it. Meanwhile, the cop assigned to protect Finn’s family finds herself drawn to her charges.

Despite some wildly improbable twists this drama delivers an excellent portrayal of pre-teen angst and that rare thing – a convincing lesbian lead.
