Cornerhouse Projects: Shaunie Barton

Recent art graduate Shaunie Barton’s beautiful and intricate drawings are the product of a painstaking automatic-drawing technique that involves putting pencil to paper and allowing the images to flow directly from the subconscious mind. Drawn onto silk screen prints subtly embossed with geometric shapes, the patterns that emerge seemingly reference the ‘grey matter’ from which they are born, forming elaborate cellular arrangements that might resemble human DNA. The resulting works are presented as a series of images, tonally similar but as different as fingerprints.
