During the sixties, Italian director Sergio Leone opened up a new vista for the flagging Western with his seminal ‘Spaghetti Westerns’. These stylish re-workings of the traditional genre, its myths, motifs, and conventions, brought new audiences and new recognition. Leone’s partnership with ex-schoolmate Ennio Morricone resulted in some of the most haunting, finest soundtracks ever recorded. This brief season, in collaboration with the National Film Theatre, aims to remind us of the impact of these films and soundtracks that have inspired everyone from the movie brats to generations of pop musicians.
