Beyond Merchant of Venice 1936

A Forgotten History

Join Tracy-Ann Oberman and Lord Mann as they discuss the importance of reclaiming history against the backdrop of this new re-imagined production of The Merchant of Venice 1936.

The new production routes the world of the play firmly within the events that surrounded the Battle of Cable Street – this talk will look at the forgotten history around Oswald Mosley and the British Union of Fascists, when they attempted to march in Manchester in 1936 as well as examining the clashes in Leeds the same year during the Battle of Holbeck Moor.

Lord Mann is an independent advisor to UK Government on Antisemitism.

Leading actor and writer Tracy-Ann Oberman plays Shylock in The Merchant of Venice 1936 and has reimagined the production.
