An international cast including Brie Larson, Armie Hammer, and Cillian Murphy star in a U.S. set, thrills-a-plenty action drama about a weapons deal gone wrong that escalates into a manic, bullet-riddled standoff inside an abandoned warehouse. The latest film from British auteur Ben Wheatley (High-Rise) was actually shot entirely in a single location in Brighton, but uses its period design and claustrophobic setting to brilliant effect. Executive produced by Scorsese, it’s a riot from start to finish with a superb supporting cast including Noah Taylor, Sharlto Copley and Sam Riley. Michael Smiley cements his position as one of the UK’s most accomplished, if menacing, actors. The film makes John Woo feel a little, well, tame.
