The Burning Bush

Library Theatre Company

Music from central and Eastern Europe and the Oriental tradition. Songs of the Yiddish theatre and the sweat shop at the turn of the century, tunes of the Russian Klezmer (travelling Jewish bands) and Hassidic dances. The title is taken from one of the best known Yiddish theatre songs, reflecting the bitter-sweet aspects of Jewish life in the ghettos and shtels (villages). In this special Millennium programme the group have invited two virtuoso Arab musicians to join them playing exquisite Moslem, Jewish and Christian music from Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean on a variety of exotic instruments.
