DJ Paulette: ‘Welcome to the Club’ Book Launch

“Icon. Trailblazer. Activist. Warrior.”
These words by the acclaimed Maxine Peake illuminate the extraordinary life and career of DJ Paulette.
Join us for a revelatory evening celebrating the launch of “Welcome to the Club: The Life and Lessons of a Black Woman DJ” by the legendary Manchester DJ and icon, DJ Paulette.

As one of Haçienda’s pioneering female DJs, DJ Paulette has soared to the heights of the music industry. Her electrifying performances have captivated audiences spanning the globe, leaving an indelible mark on dance music history. Yet despite the hedonism and success, her experiences of EDM and house music have been fraught with difficulty and prejudice.

In Welcome to the Club, DJ Paulette offers a candid and compelling perspective as a Black woman navigating a world riddled with exclusion, misogyny, racism, and classism, whilst simultaneously championing the powerful women who thrive within this creative space. With a career spanning three decades, DJ Paulette shares the soaring highs, the profound lows, and the invaluable lessons she has gleaned along her musical journey.

Part biography, part call to action: DJ Paulette’s debut book is not just a remarkable story; it’s a manifesto for our times.

DJ Paulette will be in conversation with fellow DJ, label head and radio host Jamz Supernova, with time allowed for audience questions. Following the event, there will be a book signing in the HOME foyer, where you can meet DJ Paulette and take home a signed copy of Welcome to the Club.

'Imagine the DJ is taking notes while everyone in the club is dancing. Welcome to the club is exactly that, notes of a DJ - the irrepressible sunlight of DJ Paulette. A fascinating insight into the music business by a northern Black woman.'
