Born in Liverpool, Linder (full name Linder Sterling) studied art and design at Manchester Polytechnic. The artist predominantly uses the technique of collage to break down social gender codes, focusing on the notion of the sexualised woman. Linder’s work also includes photography, confrontational performance art, and ties to the British punk scene -co-founded the post punk group Ludus. Linder first drew attention when created cover art for the single Orgasm Addict by the Buzzcocks.
Linder’s solo exhibitions include Cornerhouse (Manchester), PS1/Museum of Modern Art (New York), Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, and work responding to the sculpture of Barbara Hepworth at Hepworth, Wakefield and Tate ST Ives. The artist also has shown work in Dallas, Cologne, Brussels, Berlin and most recently in Stockholm.
