HOME is offering an Assistant Director placement that will provide a learning and informal training opportunity for a talented emerging director, based in the North West of England area who has demonstrated a commitment to directing and a passion for theatre making for, by and with children and young people.
We are looking for an Assistant Director to assist on Little Red, a HOME and Theatre Porto collaboration for Xmas 2023.
The bursary recipient will demonstrate a commitment to making theatre in the Northwest, some experience of making work for children and family audiences and an interest in socially engaged practice with communities.
Theatre Porto are recreating their production of LITTLE RED following the 2022 remount by Eastern Angles in Ipswich. The show will play at HOME Manchester for a week before returning to Theatre Porto, Ellesmere Port for a run either side of the festive break.
The production will use the original script and music from the highly successful 2016-18 production, then called LITTLE RED AND THE BIG BAD WOLF.
The show is a playful, child-centred and highly visual piece of ensemble storytelling with songs which has delighted audiences up and down the country. The show has had 2 successful Xmas runs at The unity Theatre, Liverpool and at Z-arts Manchester and Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal. It also toured nationally to small scale venues.
Working alongside the creative development team at HOME, the Assistant role will be responsible for contributing to workshops in community settings with young people and adults around the themes of Little Red. This work is part of HOME’s community development programme working in Hulme, Moss Side and Gorton. Community participants will be offered pre-workshops, free tickets to the show and a post-show creative opportunity in T2 Theatre at HOME. This post will also contribute to the installation of this creative opportunity.
