Jul – Sep 2012 Cornerhouse Guide

Our summer programme is full of exhibitions, events, and special screenings, plus we welcome Abandon Normal Devices Festival back to Manchester for the 2012 edition.

Highlights of the film programme this quarter are a screening of Hitchcock’s The Lodger, accompanied by live music (broadcast by satellite from London) from Nitin Sawhney and the London Symphony Orchestra taking place on Sat 21 July and Pout on Tour, featuring two of the best films from this year’s BFI London Lesbian and Gay film festival, plus a new title chosen especially for the tour.

New releases to look out for this quarter include: Shadow Dancer a gripping thriller from James Marsh, set in Northern Ireland in the 80’s; Lawless a gritty Western, written by Nick Cave, which features a cast including Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain, and Gary Oldman; and On the Road, an adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s iconic beat novel from The Motorcycle Diaries director Walter Salles.

For new releases added to our programme since our guide went to press visit our new film additions page for the latest confirmation.

The fourth season of our popular NT Live screenings begins in September with an adaptation of Mark Haddon’s novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Julie Walters stars alongside Rory Kinnear and Helen McCrory in the savagely funny The Last of the Haussmans in October, then Simon Russell Beale takes the title role in Shakespeare’s strange fable of consumption, debt and ruin, Timons of Athens, in November.
