Women Over 50 Film Festival/ Transformation + Q&A

Women Over 50 Film Festival celebrates older women on both sides of the camera, challenging the ageism and sexism many women face in the film industry and in many other areas of life too. 

This programme presents highlights from the festival’s 2023 edition, and showcases stories of change, rebellion and coming to see ourselves as we really are. 

Films screening in the programme are: 

A Smoking Novel (dir. Andrew Brooks)Every night a writer goes to the woods to write her novel, but a critical voice chokes her words. 

Cycle of Change (dir. Emma Lazenby) – Half of the population goes through perimenopause. It’s a major life change, but many are not prepared and don’t know what to expect. 

Consuelo (dir. JL Ruiz) – Consuelo, a toilet attendant, lives a lonely life, unnoticed by her husband and son. Everything changes the day her idol, Manuel Bravo, walks into her bathroom. 

Private View (dir. Sarah Myland) – Two British artists, lesbian portrait painter Sadie Lee and non-binary writer Libro Levi Bridgeman collaborate on a portrait of Libro. 

The Call (dir. Riffy Ahmed) – An exploration of misunderstandings and power struggles in mother and daughter / first generation and second generation relationships. 

You Can’t Shrink Love (dir. Veena Rao) – An artist gives life to the memories of our most beloved companions. 

Linda (dir. Joe Lycett) – Linda gets a job in a post office, but her tall tales soon raise suspicions. 

 

Event/ This screening will be followed by a Q&A with Janice Connolly – comedian and lead actor of Linda – chaired by Louise Wadley, director of Hebden Bridge Film Festival.
