With his partner, screenwriter and actor Zoe Kazan, acclaimed actor Paul Dano adapts the minimalist novel by Richard Ford about Joe, a teenage boy who has moved to a small town in 1950s Montana with his parents who eke out an existence on the middle-class poverty line. Capturing the suffocating desperation of the novel, Dano also draws a terrific performance from newcomer Ed Oxenbould.
