Waking Life

Directed by Richard Linklater

In WAKING LIFE Linklater applies an innovative digital animation technique to style borrowed from his début SLACKER. Like that U.S. indie landmark, a slew of participants offer meandering philosophical musing in an existential dream-stream of consciousness. Film theory, reincarnation and Billy Wilder are just some of the topics.  Shot and edited on DV as a live action film, it was then transferred to computer where a team of animators painted over the original footage in a 21st century version of the pre-digital rotoscoping technique. The result is an often halucinogenic, sometimes hilarious vision of a world not quite our own.
