Based on the popular Japanese crime noir novel, Villain follows the seemingly mundane lives of shop girl Mitsuyo (Eri Fukatsu) and construction worker Yuichi (Satoshi Tsumebuki) who meet on an internet dating site. Yuichi however is suspected of a local murder and events prior to their meeting are revealed, exposing everyone involved as not the people they appear to be. Winning 5 Japanese Academy Awards including Best Actor and Actress, Lee Sang-il’s direction is authoritative yet nuanced, whilst Hayao Miyazaki’s regular composer Joe Hisaishi compliments with an intense, melodramatic score.
