Une Femme est une Femme

Directed by Jean-Luc Godard

A glorious technicolor, cinemascope tribute to the MGM musicals of the 40s and 50s, and to the director’s wife and star Karina. She wants to get pregnant, and must choose between two men – the romantic (Belmondo) or the pragmatic (Brialy). With a heady mixture of gags, asides, tricks, and Godardian musical numbers, this was a movie like no other: ‘brash, defiant, gaudy, and infinitely fragile’ (Tony Rayns). Simply gorgeous.
