Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives

Directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul

Uncle Boonmee is seriously ill and, as he prepares for his last days, decides to travel out to the Thai countryside where he is joined by his long-lost son and the ghost of his dead wife. Weerasethakul garnered universal high praise at Cannes Film Festival this year where he won the Palme d’Or for this meditative and enchanting film.

Reviews

“The poetry is all in this calm and gentle equivalence. The film’s sublimely spiritual quality induces a benign narcosis. […] It’s the most persuasive and beguiling account of mysticism and religion that I’ve seen in the cinema recently, or perhaps ever. *****” Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

“This languorously bizarre Palme d’Or-winner lulls you into a blissed-out state of receptiveness. ****” Tim Robey, The Telegraph

“An elegantly artistic film that is both visually arresting and engagingly entertaining.” Screen International
