UK Premiere/ The Lady Improper

Directed by Jessey Tsang Tsui-Shan

Pop star Charlene Choi (Sara) plays Yuen Siu-man, a gynaecology nurse struggling with a fear of physical intimacy that led to the breakdown of her marriage. When her father is hospitalised, Siu-man enlists the help of Jihao, a French-educated chef, to salvage the faltering family restaurant, and their cooking lessons take a sexual turn.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jessey Tsang Tsui-Shan, The Lady Improper is both a look at restrictive attitudes toward sex and desire in contemporary Hong Kong and a love-letter to the region’s cuisine.

The Lady Improper was screened in Hong Kong and China in various edited versions, cut due to their sexual themes. We will be screening the full director’s cut of the film.
