The story of a teenage girl from a religious and respectable family who gets involved with a prison inmate, leading to serious consequences for everyone concerned and the ultimate moral dilemma – how far would you go to protect someone you care about? Presos was Costa Rica’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, and is based on a documentary about Costa Rican prisons made by the director’s father in 1975. The work, family and romantic relationships are extremely well drawn, fully engaging the audience for the tense denouement and leaving plenty to discuss as the credits roll.
