This debut feature length documentary from Colombian filmmaker Lizcano is going to look spectacular on the big screen. An exquisite portrait of life on a group of minute artificial islands off the Caribbean coast near Cartagena: a community of 800 people – descended from slaves and inhabiting the islands for around 200 years – eke out their existence crammed into just 1200 square metres of space. The film raises issues around sustainable fishing and marine conservation; community activism and self-determination for marginalised groups; and how this island culture serves as a metaphor for our whole planet.
