Trauma

Directed by Marc Evans

Director Marc Evans on his new film: “MY LITTLE EYE was an experiment and TRAUMA is too. (I suppose most films are?) With MLE we tried to tell the story from a totally objective point of view, from the all-seeing eye of the digi-cameras. There were no p.o.v’s or tracking shots, an almost perverse style of storytelling. TRAUMA takes the opposite approach. It is an attempt to tell the story subjectively. The style of the film this time hopefully reflects the point of view of its main character Ben, played (wonderfully, I think!) by Firth. Reality and the “truth” are hard to pin down. When you suffer grief or any severe trauma you can go crazy. The familiar can seem strange and the ordinary threatening. It’s a horrible situation and in that sense I suppose TRAUMA is a horror film. But really it is more of an attempt to tell a story from the point of view of a man who’s losing his hold on reality. A kind of psychological narrative puzzle?”
