Things to Come

Directed by William Cameron Menzies

As the acknowledged pioneer of science fiction in literature, H.G. Wells’s ideas and themes have been hugely influential. Based on Wells’s novel The Shape of Things to Come, this film is an eerily prescient, epic fantasy about the changes wrought on society by total war, and the uncertain future that new technology might offer. Selected by Anthony Burgess as one of his favourite films, its hopes and fears are still fascinatingly modern and relevant.

Curated in collaboration with the International Anthony Burgess Foundation.
