The Tempest

Directed by Derek Jarman

Brooding and darkly laden with symbolic imagery, Jarman’s terrific third feature is considered by some to be the most evocative Shakespeare adaptation ever to reach the screen. Rich images of shining gold and dark water dominate as furtive magus Prospero converses with – and attempts to manipulate – Ariel, a spirit from the beyond.

Stunning performances are delivered by a fine ensemble cast, including an appearance from Elisabeth Welch who delivers a delicious rendition of Stormy Weather.
