Tornatore’s follow-up to PARADISO was another bittersweet tribute to the power of cinema. In STARMAKER that power is exploited by an itinerant filmmaker who travels from village to village in Sicily, selling the locals screen tests. Only the camera’s as empty as his promises of movie star futures.
