Azra flies back to her ancestral home in Pakistan to be reunited with her grieving mother Mariam, with whom she has a strained relationship.
Struggling to fit the image of the perfect daughter, Azra finds herself transported, through Bollywood-inspired flashbacks, to 1960s Karachi, sparking a connection between her mother’s wild youth to her own life in 90s Canada.
Best of 2024 – our team says:
A family tragedy brings generations of women together in this energetic and fast-paced film which explores a young woman’s queer identity and the shift in her once-strong relationship with her mother.
With stylish production design and Bollywood-infused storytelling, this delightful film takes us on a nostalgic journey to 1960s Karachi and reminds us that our parents were young once too.
