The Others

Directed by Alejandro Amenábar

ABRE LOS OJOS director Amenábar’s English language début has been a huge hit in the States and in his native Spain where it has become the biggest selling Spanish film ever. The young ‘Spanish Hitchcock’ has made a psychological gothic thriller that owes a nod to his nickname-sake as well as to Henry James, THE INNOCENTS and a recent, highly feted American ghost tale. In an excellent performance, Kidman plays the tightly wound young mother Grace who watches over her isolated Jersey household as she awaits the return of her husband from WWII. Hers is a fierce, dark vigil as she strives to protect her two young children from the daylight that could destroy them and a shadowy secret that threatens.
