The Lavender Hill Mob – 4K Restoration

Directed by Charles Crichton

One of Ealing Studio’s most good-natured comedies, The Lavender Hill Mob tells the story of a motley crew’s plan to rob the Bank of England and the unlikely events that threaten their heist.

Henry Holland has worked faithfully for 20 years as a bank transfer agent for the delivery of gold bullion. A shy man, completely inconsequential to his employers, he has long dreamt of a way to execute his plan of the perfect gold robbery. After befriending a merchant with access to a smelting machine and recruiting a pair of professional criminals, the gang set about their improbable enterprise.

Writer T.E.B. Clarke was inspired to write about robbing a bank whilst researching jewellery heists for another Ealing production – Pool of London. Whilst writing the script, he consulted with the Bank of England itself.
