The Island

Directed by Anca Damian

Turning the tale of Robinson Crusoe on its head with the help of a hypnotic soundtrack and colourful surreal visuals, The Island is an animated musical where we find Crusoe voluntarily isolated on a deserted island with an iPad and his imagination for company. He saves Friday, a castaway and the only survivor of an illegal refugee boat for his own needs. During his journey on the island, Robinson encounters extraordinary beings and events and confronts current affairs through visual poetry, psychedelia and lavish symbolism in a world where everybody looks for their own paradise.
