Professional armed robber Doc McCoy is in prison, and he’ll do anything to get out. This includes becoming involved in a bank robbery organised by Jack Beynon, a corrupt parole board member. Unsurprisingly all does not go to plan and McCoy and his wife Carol end up on the run.
Showcasing Sam Peckinpah’s approach to creating action on screen and with striking cinematography by Lucien Ballard, The Getaway is a crime film that comes with stellar credentials.
Adapted from a novel of the same name by the celebrated hardboiled crime writer Jim Thompson by action maestro Walter Hill, it is Peckinpah’s second collaboration with iconic star Steve McQueen. Ali McGraw stars alongside McQueen and the pair are ably supported by Peckinpah regulars Ben Johnson, Dub Taylor and Bo Hopkins.
