The Eight Hundred

Directed by Guan Hu

The Eight Hundred focuses on the sacrifices made by a ragtag group of Chinese soldiers in 1937 Shanghai as imperial Japanese troops advanced. Their operations were once praised by Mao Zedong as a “classic example of national revolution.” A controversial work, the film saw its premiere at the Shanghai Film Festival cancelled. It has since been released to huge success in China.
