The Apple

Directed by Samira Makhmalbaf

The daughter of acclaimed director Mohsen, Samira was only 18 when she directed her haunting feature début. Based on a true story, THE APPLE recounts the story of twin 12-year-old girls kept prisoner in their own home by a father who believed, ‘My daughters are like flowers. They mustn’t be exposed to the sun or they would soon fade.’ This humanist and radical film questions the place of women in Islamic society.
