Summer Rain

Directed by Antonio Banderas

Banderas’ second film as director is an adaptation of Antonio Soler’s novel that depicts coming of age one ‘70s summer in Banderas’ native Malaga. Miguelito is fresh out of hospital and has decided to become a poet. He hooks up with his mates for a relaxed summer in the sun, full of swimming, drinking and hopefully girls. But pal Babirus’ emotional problems weigh heavy on the group, whilst success in the seduction biz is fleeting. The colour-drenched, angled and inventive cinematography evokes the poetic intensity of life as Miguelito feels it.
