Robert Eads was many things to many people: a cowboy, a grandfather, a good ol’ Southern boy. He was also a transsexual, a man born female and mother of two. Diagnosed – by cruel irony – with ovarian cancer, he initially couldn’t find a doctor to treat him. But with support from friends and family, Robert refuses to give up. Raw, emotional and quietly powerful to the end, this is a remarkable film, richly deserving of its many awards. + Marching Gaily (Dirs Alexander Hahn/Ralf Jacobs, Austria 2001, 5 mins)Two events occur on the same day in Vienna: one a policeman’s parade, the other a Pride celebration.
