Silent Light

Directed by Carlos Reygadas

Mexico’s enfant terrible returns in a more contemplative mood. Yet this tale of a crisis of morality and spirituality within a Mennonite community is still signature Reygadas – an artful piece of cinema that celebrates its director’s passion for Dreyer.

On the outskirts of Chihuahua, Johann (a husband and father) is in turmoil after he breaks the strict rules of the community by falling in love and having an affair with another woman. The resulting upheaval is played out against the daily habits and rituals of family and community.
