In 1985, a lonely tailor lives in downtown Bogotá, where military police are cracking down on the left-wing guerrilla group known as M-19. Amid the growing insecurity in the city, a gentle passion develops between the taciturn and serious-faced tailor, Salvador, and Isabel, the vivacious and open-hearted single mother who operates the lift in his workplace. Could he be the saviour (‘salvador’) she’s looking for? Or will his jealousy and insecurity scupper their affair?
This superbly well-made film packs an emotional punch without melodrama, and allows an intimate story of fledging love to deftly bring home the corrosive atmosphere of violence and fear that permeated 1980s Colombia. This expertly crafted debut feature promises an illustrious career ahead for the director.
