Ring + post-screening discussion

Hideo Nakata’s hugely influential J-Horror, in which a reporter learns of a story about a supernaturally cursed video-tape circulating among school kids, is presented in a new 4K restoration. Overseen by director of photography Jun’ichirô Hayashi, the film retains an incredible potency, and in many ways anticipates the digital dawn of social media. A film that retains its power to shock and scare, like Dark Water it also features a compelling female hero at its centre.

Event details

The screening on Sunday 17 March will be followed by a free, informal post-screening discussion led by Dr Sorcha Ní Fhlainn, Senior Lecturer in Film Studies and American Studies, and founding member of the Manchester Centre for Gothic Studies
