Red Desert

Directed by Michelangelo Antonioni

Director Antonioni’s first feature made in colour and famed for its use of striking industrial landscapes, Red Desert’s exploration of modernity and alienation perfectly complements HOME’s exhibition, Safe. Monica Vitti plays a psychologically scarred young woman trying to navigate her way through a world that she increasingly feels removed from and Richard Harris the visiting businessman she seeks solace with.

A haunting and ultimately moving film, critic Mark Le Fanu observed that, ‘One cannot miss its passion – or its pessimism. The movie is a beautiful, haunting, and complex meditation on the spiritual cost of modernity.’
