To launch our Sound and Vision: Popstars on Film season, we’re bringing back this blistering screen debut from Prince playing “The Kid”, a highly talented but troubled young musician. To escape his difficult home life, he spends his days rehearsing and his nights performing at the Minneapolis nightclub, First Avenue. While trying to avoid making the same mistakes as his father (Clarence Williams III), The Kid navigates the rivalry between First Avenue’s house bands; his own The Revolution, the flashy Morris Day and his group The Time and Dez Dickerson and his group The Modernaires as well as a rocky relationship with a captivating singer, Apollonia (Apollonia Kotero). Prince’s talents are on full display here resulting in the soundtrack becoming an iconic worldwide smash hit.
