Although rarely receiving the critical acclaim garnered by many BBC shows, ITV sitcoms nevertheless pulled in huge viewing figures for such comic gems as The Lovers (Granada 1970), Nearest and Dearest (Granada 1968-73), Jack Rosenthal-scripted The Dustbinmen (Granada 1969-70), and of course perennial favourite Man about the House (Thames 1973-76).
