Parent and Baby: Their Finest

Directed by Lone Scherfig

Director Lone Scherfig (An Education) returns with an adaptation of the novel Their Finest Hour and a Half by Lissa Evans. Catrin Cole (Arterton) is a ‘slop’ scriptwriter, charged with bringing a female perspective to war films produced by the British Ministry of Information’s Film Division. While on location in Devon, Catrin begins to come into her own and earn the respect of her peers, becoming the crewperson that Ambrose Hilliard (Bill Nighy), a past-his-prime yet nonetheless pompous actor, will talk to. An intelligent look at the British film industry, this is also a look at how women in the film industry had to fight to forge their place in the world.
