Parent and Baby/ The Bookshop

Directed by Isabel Coixet

Set in 1959, The Bookshop sees a young widow (Emily Mortimer) foil local opposition to expand her community’s cultural horizons. Based on Penelope Fitzgerald’s much-loved novel and directed by Isabel Coixet (My Life Without Me, The Secret Life of Words), the film won Best Film and Best Director at Spain’s Goya Awards. Bill Nighy and Patricia Clarkson (The Party) are impressive in supporting acting roles.
