Salvador (Banderas), a film director in physical decline, experiences a series of re-encounters: his childhood in the 60s when he re-located with his parents to a village in Valencia; first desire; his first adult love in the Madrid of the 80s and the pain of the break-up while this love was still alive and intense. Almodóvar’s Felliniesque confessional is his best work in years, moving and articulate, it features a career-best central turn from Banderas.
